Notification of Change

Swagelok has earned a reputation for unmatched quality and consistency at the component level. We are committed to maintaining this reputation while continuing to grow and improve our product offering. At times, this requires changes to the form, fit or function of our core products.

This Notification of Change sets forth changes to one or more of the products you may have purchased from Swagelok or an authorized Swagelok sales and service center. Prior to release, each change listed was carefully evaluated in accordance with the Swagelok Quality System, to minimize impact to you, our end customer.

A Notification relates to an applicable* change impacting Form, Fit and/or Function ("FFF") or the cosmetic appearance of a standard product. "Standard product" is any product that does not include a customer specified product or process attribute and can be purchased by any customer. This includes off-catalog product that can be assembled through designators, assemble to order ("ATO"), make to order ("MTO"), product produced by other means.

Unless otherwise noted, all changes are rolling changes and will take some time to flow through our global inventory. If you have questions regarding the impact of this change on your applications, please contact your local authorized Swagelok sales and service center representative. They, along with regional technology centers, and trained field engineers, are available to assist you.

The Following Changes have been Implemented

Effective Date: February 27th, 2024

Pressure Relief Valve Wire Locking Option

The Swagelok® pressure relief valve (PRV) wire locking option has recently received a process improvement. This new process will produce a more compact, twisted wire as shown in the images below. This change will have no impact to performance. The new process has been implemented, so future orders will be produced with the twisted wire, effectively immediately.

DF Valve Flow Increase

As part of our continued review of products, the DF series high-flow, springless diaphragm valves will undergo the following changes:

The current geometry, a flat surface in the wetted area of the valve, will be phased out by part number starting June 1, 2024. The new geometry will increase the valve’s flow coefficient (Cv)by a minimum of 10%. During the transition, DF series valves may contain both geometries until inventory has been depleted. A visual change will only be detectable on the internals of the body component. To help differentiate between styles, a visual indicator will be added to the part.

The High-Flow, Springless Diaphragm Valves, DF Series catalog (MS-02-24) is being updated within the month of February to reflect this change. All other ratings remain unchanged, and all part numbers remain unchanged.

Effective Date: January 2nd, 2024

Thermoplastic Hose Changes: Replacement 7N and 7R Hoses / Discontinued Hoses

Swagelok's supplier has discontinued its production of thermoplastic hose series 7N and 7R. As a result, the Hose Service Group (HSG) was required to find a new supply to maintain these products in our standard offering. Although new products were obtained and validated with our existing end connections, they do not meet pressure requirements when swaged. Therefore, all customer swaging for 7N and 7R will have to be discontinued once the current hose inventory is exhausted.

The new bulk hose will meet all existing performance parameters, such as burst, temperature rating, and bend radii, and have the same lay line marking. However, the hose does have a dull finish as compared to the existing glossy cover. Please note this supply change does not impact 8R, 7P, and NG thermoplastic hose series.

The supply of 3/4" and 1" thermoplastic hoses in the 8R and 7P series has been discontinued and there are no suitable replacements for these products with our end connections. Therefore, 7P12, 7P16, 8R12 and 8R16 hoses will be removed from the standard Swagelok product offering once inventory is depleted. Thermoplastic end connections in those sizes will also be discontinued as a result.

Effective Date: January 1st, 2024

2D (Two-Dimensional) Barcodes Added to Additional High Purity Products

One of the ways Swagelok lives its core value of quality is to implement technologies that help enhance product quality. Establishing a unique identification number for each valve body and applying a 2D barcode to the product allows the product’s progress to be tracked through assembly operations. This unique ID also links the valve to a rigid verification process to ensure the valve’s assembly to factory specifications.

Starting in 2012, we began applying 2D barcodes to select high purity products.

HF Regulators: Effective September 1, 2023, 2D barcodes will be applied to HF series regulators.

DH Valves: In 2018, 2D bar codes were added to certain DH process sheet valves. Effective February 1, 2024, 2D barcodes will be applied to all DH series valves.

There are no other changes to the product marking. Product will transition over time so both marking styles may be seen in shipments until current inventory is depleted. We continue to investigate adding a 2D barcode to other products and expect to implement it on more products in the coming months.

Important: Although 2D barcodes are similar in appearance to QR (Quick Response) codes used in various media, the underlying code language is different. Specific equipment is needed to read the 2D barcode.

Product Name: AFS and 40 Series Valves
Description and Reason for Change:
In the spirit of continuous improvement, we are changing the nylon handles used on our standard AFS and 45 series ball valves by replacing the current brass handle insert with a more robust, stainless steel handle insert. The new handle will be easier to actuate and will incorporate the handle stop into the handle, removing the need for an additional handle stop insert.

This change will not affect the handle function or any valve ordering numbers. However, it will result in a change to the size of the handle used for 45 series valves and in handle kit ordering numbers. The new handle will carry the same dimensions as the current AFS series handle.

Made-to-stock valve orders may see the old handles until stock is depleted. If you require a 45 series valve with the old handle using the brass insert, we will continue to offer kits with the old handle (ordering number BZ-5K-45-BK) for up to two years. If a customer requires a valve assembled with the original 45 series handle, the local sales and service center must contact Swagelok Technical Service.

We are implementing the same change to existing 42, 43, and 44 series handles in Q2 2021, updating the handle insert from brass to stainless steel. This will make the handle consistent with the 40G handle design, which already includes the stainless steel insert. This will not change the fit or function of these valves, and there will not be any changes to end item or handle kit ordering numbers. The transition will be implemented as inventory is depleted and you may see shipments containing both handle types during this time.

Effective Date: November 17, 2020
Product Name: 43T Series Valve Packing Material
Description and Reason for Change:
As part of Swagelok's ongoing commitment to implement continuous quality improvements to meet the performance needs of demanding applications, the upper and lower packing of the 43T series ball valve is changing from PFA to Modified PTFE/D1710 type 1, Grade 1, Class B material (TFM). The TFM material is the same material currently used in the 43G valve.

This change impacts the 2-way, 3-way, angle pattern, 4-way, and 5-way configurations of the 43T series ball valve only. The 43T series 6-way and 7-way configurations as well as 41, 42, 44, and 45 series valves are not impacted by this change at this time but may be evaluated for this change in the future. There will be no impact to valve fit/function, pressure/temperature ratings, or certifications. Valve ordering numbers will remain the same.

The implementation for this new packing will be a running change. As inventory of the PFA material is depleted, valve assemblies will transition to the new TFM material. Based on current inventory, the change in material will occur within approximately 6 months.

Until this transition is complete, it is possible that customers could receive valve orders assembled with either the PFA or the TFM material. Controls will be put into place to ensure there is no mixing of packing material within the same valve.

Effective Date: November 4, 2020

  • Aflas color will change from dark brown to black (ASTM D2000 material remains the same)
  • A molding cavity number will be added under the “AF” material designator

Additionally, the adhesive of the bonded poppet will change from Chemlok® 8116 to Chemlok 5150 to meet updated environmental standards. The other CW series poppet materials will also change to this adhesive in the coming months. A notice will be released as that transition is completed.

None of these changes will impact the function of the product.

Effective Date: October 2, 2020
Product Name: 5 and 6 Series Actuators

Description and Reason for Change:

In the spirit of continuous improvement and quality, we are implementing a change to all 5 and 6 series actuators by adding a bellows valve option, improving the thread engagement on the panel mount nut.

Currently, there is no counter-bore on the actuator base plate. Moving forward, all 5 and 6 series actuators will include a small counter-bore which will provide more space for the panel nut threads to engage. Please note this does not impact the function of the product.

During the transition over the next 30 days, both versions of the actuator will be shipped until the existing stock is depleted. Please note that all existing product without the counter-bore still meets Swagelok quality standards.

Effective Date: September 17, 2020

Description and Reason for Change:

The gaugeable preswage tool is moving from a one-piece body design to a two-piece design except for the 5/8 inch size, similar to the standard Swagelok preswage tool design. The new design uses a machined insert that is pressed into a cast body. This will result in an improvement in manufacturing output.

All functional dimensions are remaining the same. However, there will be a visual and physical difference for the tool (greater overall length and body diameter). There is no impact to product function. Ordering numbers will remain the same. Implementation for the change has begun and shipments of the new design will take place throughout October; we will be fully transitioned for the impacted sizes by the end of October.

Product Name: HK Series Bellows Valve Discontinuance

Description and Reason for Change:

HK series brass and alloy 400 bellows valves will no longer be available after remaining inventory has been depleted. The raw material used in the production of the bellows has been discontinued and a new, robust supply chain is unavailable. The decision has been made to discontinue the product line as viable alternative products are available as listed below.

New requests will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis until inventory is depleted. For applications requiring compact brass bellows valves, the brass BK series continues to be available. The H series stainless steel bellows valve will also remain available.

Please reference Bellows-Sealed Valves, H and HK Series, MS-01-36 for additional information on the H and HK series valves.

Effective Date: Q3, 2020
Product Name: T Series PTFE Hose
Description and Reason for Change:
Swagelok's Hose Service Group is pleased to announce that the T Series BHT and MBHT hose will be transitioning from a swaged end connection to a crimped design starting Q3, 2020. As we make this transition, the configurable TH series hose will continue to have a swaged end connection until approximately Q1, 2021.

While this change will allow us to increase manufacturing efficiency, we also anticipate these advantages (see Hose and Flexible Tubing catalog - MS-01-180, for updated technical data):

  • Improved product performance allowing for increased pressure ratings at elevated temperatures that will be updated, along with the product dimensions, in the Hose and Flexible Tubing catalog.
  • Revised product dimensions
  • Inclusion into local distributor crimp cell capabilities for local assembly.
  • The transition to crimped components allow us to improve our traceability.

Crimped ends will be supplied as end connection inventory for swaged assemblies are depleted. You may see both designs in orders containing multiple end connection types until the transition is complete. TH series hose will continue to have a swaged end connection until approximately the beginning of 2021. More information regarding other versions will be released in a timely manner.

Product Name: T Series PTFE Hose
Description and Reason for Change:
Swagelok's Hose Service Group is pleased to announce that the T Series PTFE hose will be transitioning from a swaged to a crimped design for assembly of end connections starting December 1, 2019.

While this change will allow us to increase manufacturing efficiency, we also anticipate these advantages:

  • Improved product performance allowing for increased pressure ratings at elevated temperatures that will be updated, along with the product dimensions, in the Hose and Flexible Tubing catalog.
  • Inclusion into local distributor crimp cell capabilities for local assembly.

The current swaged design will continue to be the only version supplied until December 1, 2019. Following that date, crimped ends will be supplied as end connection inventory of swaged assemblies are depleted. You may see both designs in orders containing multiple end connection types until the transition is complete.

Product Name: PB Series Rubber Hose
Description and Reason for Change:
As a part of our effort to provide exceptional service to our customers and to facilitate ideal packaging of PB series hose and end connections, there is a change to the product line. Swagelok is making a design improvement on the end connections that will eliminate the finishing cap. This change will allow for bulk packaging, eliminating the need to cut open individual bags, and provide a cleaner visual appearance.

The removal of the finishing cap may require minor changes to the length and/or outside dimension of the end connection. An updated Hose and Flexible Tubing catalog is available and reflects the dimensional changes associated with the new end connection, as well as the visual changes due to the removal of the finishing cap.

The new supply of bulk hose may have minor visual differences specific to the color and surface finish. The same color options will be provided, however, there may be slight differences in the shade of the colors. The gray color hose will contain black text in place of white text. The black color bulk hose will be constructed with a Neoprene cover for added UV and ozone resistance. The hose reel size and/or material may also change.

These changes will go into effect no earlier than August 30, 2019. After this date, there will be a transition period where both end connection designs and bulk hose supplies could be used in orders as existing inventory is depleted.

Product Name: Swagelok Facing Tool Service Update for SWS-232EP Model
Description and Reason for Change:

Swagelok will no longer service the SWS-232EP model facing tool as of September 30, 2019, or until spare parts can no longer be supplied, whichever comes first.  Sales of the SWS-232EP were discontinued in 2011 in conjunction with the release of the MS-TF series facing tools.

Swagelok continues to offer the MS-TF series facing tools. Refer to Tube Facing Tools, TF16, TF24, TF40, and TF72 Series, MS-02-426, for additional information on those models. We have continued service and support of the SWS-232EP facing tool since 2011. However, our suppliers are no longer able to supply components to meet our servicing commitments for the SWS-232EP.

Effective Date: July 1, 2019
Product Name: PB Series Rubber Hose End Connections
Description and Reason for Change:

As a part of our effort to provide exceptional service to our customers and to facilitate the packaging of PB series hose and end connections, two changes are being made to the product line. First, Swagelok is making a design improvement on the end connections that will eliminate the finishing cap. This change will allow for bulk packaging, eliminating the need to cut open individual bags by you or your customer, and provide a cleaner visual appearance. Second, we are moving the bulk hose product to a new supplier. The new supplier is already used for other Swagelok products.

Product ratings will be unchanged as the new supplier will meet the same performance requirements. Swagelok has validated both bulk hose suppliers for both end connection designs to ensure there is no concern for intermix between designs or suppliers. These changes will go into effect no earlier than July 1st, 2019. Following that date, there will be a transition period where both end connection designs may be received in orders as existing inventory is depleted.
